In recent times, the Olkaria Geothermal Resource, traditionally utilized for energy generation, has expanded its scope. KenGen recently introduced a Geothermal Health Spa and Demonstration Centre, diversifying its offerings beyond energy production. The OlKaria geothermal Spa stands as Africa’s largest hub of natural hot water, sourced from various wells. Temperatures ranging from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius define its soothing allure. This geothermal marvel boasts a natural essence, devoid of additives or treatments, while rich in minerals like silica and sulfur. As hot steam cools through collecting pipes, it converges into a main pool, offering visitors a rejuvenating experience amidst untouched, mineral-rich waters.

Swimming

There are three lagoons at Olkaria Geothermal Spa that collects water in to the main pool;

Lagoon One:

  • Receives hot brine from multiple wells.
  • Brine temperature: 90 to 100 degrees Celsius.

Lagoon Two:

  • Overflows from Lagoon One.
  • Temperature: 50 degrees Celsius.
  • Features both shallow and deep sides.

Lagoon Three:

  • Largest among the three lagoons.
  • Temperature: 30 to 40 degrees Celsius.
  • Receives overflow from Lagoon Two and overpass from Lagoon One.
  • Swimming area for visitors in hot water.
  • Includes a section for children.
  • Constructed with concrete, with Mazera stones lining walkways.
  • Deep end: 1.5 meters.
  • Can hold upto 400 people and there are sitting areas both inside and outside the lagoon.

Adjacent to Lagoon Three, an expansion caters to the needs of toddlers and young children, featuring a shallow pool barely a foot deep. This designated children’s area offers a delightful and safe environment for youngsters as young as two to revel in the soothing warmth of the water.
